Motor and Sailing Yacht Surveys

Technical surveys of motor and sailing yachts for purchase, condition or insurance purposes, with records covering the hull, equipment and systems included in the agreed scope.

Request attendance

Knowing a yacht’s condition helps plan its acquisition, use and the care it may require. TWS carries out surveys of motor and sailing vessels, with a scope tailored to the client’s purpose: purchase support, condition assessment or response to an insurance information request. The purpose is to turn technical observations into a clear record for better-informed decisions.

The inspection may cover the hull, deck and structures; engines and propulsion installation; propellers, rudder and steering system; electrical installations; and safety equipment. In sailing yachts, the mast, rigging and sails may form part of the survey depending on the engagement and available access. Each system must be assessed within the competencies and resources effectively confirmed for the service.

Planning takes into account whether the vessel will be afloat or ashore, which compartments can be accessed and which equipment can be operated. Inspection of the submerged part, going aloft, dismantling, fluid analyses, specialised tests and sea trials depend on prior agreement, authorisation and suitable conditions. A visual observation of an engine, for example, does not replace an internal mechanical assessment or observation of its operation under load.

The report identifies the vessel and the conditions of the attendance, includes photographs and describes the relevant observations, limitations and points that may require further investigation. For those considering a purchase, this information helps formulate questions and organise due diligence. For the owner, it provides a documented reference on the condition found and matters to be monitored.

Where the purpose is insurance-related, the insurer’s requirements must be known before the survey. Acceptance of the report, the vessel and the cover rests with the insurer. The service also does not replace a financial valuation, legal proof of ownership or official certifications. Provide the model, dimensions, hull material, location and purpose of the survey to define the appropriate service with TWS. On-site service is provided in Northern and Northeastern Brazil, subject to availability confirmation.
