Panama Canal’s Neopanamax draft cut takes effect, making cargo-adjustment evidence a live claims-control issue

The Panama Canal Authority reduced the maximum authorised draft for Neopanamax transits to 14.78 metres (48.5 feet) Tropical Fresh Water on 15 August 2026. For cargo interests and operators, the immediate exposure is not only reduced liftings: late cargo changes can create shortage, delay and condition-claim disputes unless the loading decision and its evidence trail are controlled.
